Here's your chance to own a gun that has lived 2 lives and one of them almost surely was a Confederate life. This gun was originally produced in 1819 at the famous Armory in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. You can still see their maker's Mark and production date behind the hammer on the lock plate. In front of the hammer it has the droop wing style Eagle with the "US" lettering below. This gun was originally manufactured as a .54 caliber flintlock rifle. These were officially known as the US model 1803 flintlock rifle. This is the later production of which they only manufactured 15,703 guns of this style. This one has the full-length barrel that measures 36 inches in overall length. The bore has been bored out to approximately .61 caliber and is now a smoothbore. What is special about this gun, is that it was converted to percussion and the conversion appears to be an, as of yet, unknown Confederate Arsenal conversion. They trend the flintlock breech block off of the barrel and added a large distinctive breech with the percussion system. The hammer is very distinctly made and as you can see the hammer screw is quite offset which is more than likely Confederate in manufacture. The stock of the gun has the original 1 piece Walnut wood with a very pleasing appearance all over. On the flat of the stock opposite of the lock plate it still retains the original Harpers Ferry Arsenal inspector stampings. These guns are beautifully designed with the brass for the ramrod channel guide, nosecap, trigger guard, buttplate and patch box. The patch box still opens and closes just as it should. Underneath the barrel, it has the old. Replacement ramrod that appears to have been with the gun for eons. For the last several years this gun has been in the collection of country music legend, and our friend, Hank Williams, Jr. Now it is your chance to own a wonderful gun from a historic collection.
