This is a great looking boxed set! It is an original example of the stylishly designed "transition” pattern revolver. This is one of the early pattern revolvers and they have their own distinctive look. They competed with the Colt patent revolvers of the day. It was probably produced in the 1850's or 1860's. These guns have the barrel that is completely removed by taking out the cylinder pin. This one fires a six shots of approximately .36 caliber. They cylinder and barrel have the English style proof marks. It is the pattern that has the ring style trigger underneath with the spurless bar style hammer on top. The hammer and trigger still retain a superb amount of the original factory bluing. The gun has the beautiful silver frame as well as the backstrap and engraved iron grip cap. The grip cap has the small compartment. On the backstrap it has the engraved retailer's name of "VEISEY & SONS". According to the English maker's book they are listed in Birmingham, England in 1868. Most of these guns are earlier production and it is possible they engraved it later on. The original 2-piece grips are of high grade and they have a great look to them. They have the very fine checkering pattern to the wood. The action of the gun is fully functional. The gun has an excellent jeweler quality engraving to the metal and it looks great in person. This gun comes in the original case with the accessories to accompany it. The case measures 12-1/2 inches by 7 inches and is 2-1/2 inches tall. It opens and closes nicely with the brass escutcheon on the top of the lid. The pistol is accompanied by the flask, a bullet mold, a cleaning rod and nipple wrench and an original tin of percussion caps. It also has an original oiler as well. This is a fine looking gun that comes in the original case and it will be a fine compliment to any collection of Civil War weapons.
