Here is your chance to own a fantastic looking uniform that is likely made at the end or just after the Civil War. This is a beautiful military uniform as a style that is referred to collectors as a "swallowtail coatee." This one is for the state of Massachusetts. We know this because of the Massachusetts state seal uniform buttons. This one has 26 coat size buttons as well as 6 of the cuff size versions. These were made by the famous Attleboro, Massachusetts firm of D. Evans & Co. The buttons are all Civil War in production. The coat is likely from the end of the Civil War to the early 1870's. The uniform has the pretty red cloth with the white and black trim. It is accompanied by a fine looking set of epaulets that display well with it but just sit ont he shoulder since they do not attach. When you look inside the coat you see the vast majority of the original lining in the body and sleeves. It has an old ink inscription of the name "Frank Clark". I looked the name up in the Civil War rosters and there were 3 Massachusetts soldiers with that name but none of them should have worn a coat like this during the time of their service since they enlisted during the middle of the war. The coat looks great. The uniform buttons are worth what we are asking for the coat. You get a wonderful looking uniform for a fraction of the price of what a 100% Civil War manufacture uniform would cost.
