Here is your chance to own a truly wonderful pair of buckles worn by a famous Civil War Confederate General. This is the pair of solid gold Suspender buckles that were owned and worn by Confederate Major General William "Little Billy" Mahone. Mahone started the war as Lieutenant Colonel of the 6th Virginia Infantry. By the end of the War he had risen all the way to the rank of Major General in the Confederate Army. He is best known for commanding the fierce Battle of the Crater at Petersburg, Virginia. They are made of almost an ounce of Solid Gold and incorporate two prongs in a swiveling fastening device. On the back of each buckle it has jeweler quality engraving that proudly reads "William Mahone" . You can just image these accenting his Confederate General's uniform. They come already framed in a gorgeous matt and frame. Abovew the buckles, it has the modern Xerox image of the General in uniform. Below the buckles it has the description of the pieces. It also notes that these came out of the collection of one of the most advanced collections of Civil War artifacts, the Don Tharpe Collection. They were also the subject of a magazine article in the North South trader Magazine in Volume XXIV, IssueNumber 6. Also noted is that they were part of a display in the Liberty Heritage Society Museum in Warrenton, Virginia. The frame measures 18 inches by 29 inches in overall size. It is ready to have a place of honor on your relic room wall.
