This is a wonderful original Confederate belt buckle. It is the variation of the buckle version listed as Plate #006 in the revised edition of Confederate belt Buckles & Plates by Steve Mullinax. This pattern is known to collectors as the "Virginia” pattern of two piece sword belt buckle. Most of this pattern was manufactured in the Richmond, Virginia area. The bold C.S. letters on the buckle tongue can be seen from across the room. On the ends of the letters it has the very exaggerated serifs which separate this style of buckle from most of the other Richmond style two pieces. This one is in pristine and very attractive non-excavated condition and has no restoration of any kind. As you can see the buckle has a gorgeous patina all over that is simply beautiful. The buckle has a very beautiful red tint to the patina because of the high percentage of copper used in its manufacture. Somewhere along the line it has had a black leather belt added for display purposes. It is not the original belt for this buckle but looks nice with the buckle. The leather is still nice and pliable after the years and as you can see it displays superbly. A beautiful example for anyone's relic room from use them collection.
