This is a wonderful and complete 1865 production Smith & Wesson model No. 2 Army. This one has the serial number of 51,121 which is just outside of the production numbers of the Civil War. According to the book it would have been made in the first part of 1867. It has the full-length 6 inch barrel and along the top of the barrel it has the clear "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS”. These 6 inch barrels are the standard size on the second model Smith & Wesson revolvers. The action on the gun works well. The cylinder is the correct early style that has the 6 shot cylinder and you can still read the 1855, 1859 & 1860 patent dates. The handle has the original 2-piece walnut grips present and they have a great look to the wood with a fine amount of the original varnish hanging on. The barrel of the gun has a gray surface metal with a superb amount of the original factory bluing. The frame, grip and cylinder have a superb amount of blue remaining with a great tone. The hammer of the gun still has the vivid case colors from the factory as well. These Smith & Wesson revolvers were utilized during the Civil War by well-to-do officers including General Grant and General Custer. This is a nice complete slightly post Civil War .32 caliber rimfire revolver with a very pleasing look that is definitely a step or two above the ones you usually encounter.
