This is a very cool piece! This is an original English Pillow Pommel Naval Dirk that was made by the famous firm of Francis Thurkle. This one dates circa 1790. The knife features a straight tapered blade with single fuller on each side. The right hand side is engraved with scrolls near the top of the blade and the left side is engraved with scrolls and a rampant lion. It is designed with an S-shaped guard with counter guard branch on right side. It has the original fluted ebony handle with brass ferrule at bottom and faceted brass pommel with turned capstan. The front of the guard is stamped with maker's mark "FT" for Francis Thurkle on left side. They used this marking from 1766 until 1790. This dirk is complete with its original black leather scabbard with tooled cross hatching on the front. It also has the brass mounts and the throat mount with a frog stud. The leather still displays well but as you can see, the drag of the scabbard is missing in action. This is a very nice British Naval dirk from the late 1700's.
