This is an original tactics manuals from a soldier from a famous regiment. The manual has the soldier's name on the inside of the cover in 2 places. It has the name of "Lewis C. Parmelee" nicely written in fine old brown ink. The records show that Lewis C. Parmelee served early in the War as a Private in the 7th New York State Militia. His second service was in the famous 2nd United States Sharpshooters that are better known as the Berdan's Sharpshooters. His history shows that during the fierce fighting at the Battle of Antietam, Maryland on September 17th 1862 he was killed in action. The folks on CivilWarData.com have a picture of Parlelee in uniform. They have a few of the dates wrong but the picture is a great image. The book is the infantry tactics manuals that was "...Authorized and Adopted by the Secretary of War May 1, 1861." This book was printed in Philadelphia in 1861 by the firm of J.B Lippencott and is so marked on the title page. The book is in very fine condition for its age. It appears to have all or at least most of the pages and pull-out diagrams intact. You get the book as well as some information on Parmelee's service.
