This is a great excavated Civil War era medicine bottle! This one was for "Dr. PINKHAM'S EMMENAGOGUE" and is embossed on the side stating the fact. For those of you who haven't heard of the word Emmenagogue (I didn't until I got this bottle), It is a potion that was designed to cause menstruation in women. Some of the mixtures were also designed to cause abortions.  The glass is a beautiful aqua color and is hand blown as is evident by the pontil marks on the base. It stands 6 inches high and is 3 inches across the base. This artifact came from the museum like collection of Mike Miner. According to the history label that accompanies this piece states that it was recovered in the area of Hilton Head, South Carolina and states that it was found in 1964. It will enhance any Civil War era artifact collection.
