This is a fine looking excavated eagle breastplate from the Civil War. This is the circular plate that would have adorned the shoulder strap to a Civil War cartridge box. It has the bold union eagle on the front of the plate. In one talon she holds the arrows of war and in the other talon is the branch of peace. On the back of the plate it has an excellent amount of the lead remaining as well as one of the original iron attachment loops still being present. This is a very pretty excavated Civil War era U.S. cartridge box breastplate. This piece was part of the museum like collection of Mike Miner. The verbal history that accompanied the piece is that it was found years ago in the area of the Battle of Stones River near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It was also noted that he foudn the plate on August 25th 1976. It is an excellent piece of Civil War history!
