Customer Comments:

Just wanted to let you know that I received the civil war era Bible and Matches. As usual they were in excellent condition. I am very pleased with both, and the Bible is in great condition. Being a transplant from the south, it is difficult to purchase good civil war collectables without seeing them, But I know I can trust you. California is just finding out we had a civil war. --George

Independent Corps of Cadets of Boston Grouping
This is a great group of artifacts from the Independent Corps of Cadets of Boston, Massachusetts. This three piece group would date from the 1850's. The grouping consists of the soldier's Kepi style hat, Uniform Coat and his Uniform Trousers. This group is fresh out of an estate in Nashville, Tennessee where it was rescued from a house fire.

You can click on any of the images below for a more detailed view of the item pictured.

The first piece is the beautifully displaying coatee uniform. It has the striking cadet gray color with the red trim that sets it off.

It has the classic swallow style coat tails. At the bottom of the tails it has the Star design on each side.

Above the star it has the four buttons to enhance the display of the coat as well as the single button at the top where the tail meets the main body of the coat. The buttons on the main body of the coat are Massachusetts State Crest Buttons with the nice early backmark of R&W Robinson of Attleboro. Robinson was bought out by D. Evans in 1848 but the buttons were used on up through the 1850's at least. One of the buttons on the front has been replaced with a later period staff officer button.

The collar of the coat has the red trim with the gold bullion backing and it stands nice and tall as an early production coat collar should.
On the shoulders of the coat you can see where it has epaulets at one time.

The interior of the coat has the majority of the original lining intact. As you can see it has service wear with some tears and holes. I do like that it hasn't been restored it is just as found. On the inside chest you can see where the house fire singed the inside lining.

On the inside of the collar it has the soldier's name "JAMES R. BOWMAN" written in fine old brown ink. The matching inscription is in the liner of the trousers.

The Second items is the original Pre-Civil War Kepi style Military Hat. It has a nice used look all over with the "ICC" insignia on the front that denotes the Independent Corps of Cadets organization. On the side of the hat it still retains one of the original ICC small size buttons. The top of the kepi is present with some stitching separations as you can see.

On the inside of the Kepi it has the original lining present but it is disheveled as you can see. When you look underneath you see the retailer's mark of the Bent & Bush Company of Boston. They went into business in 1849 and sold many quality military items during the Antebellum era.

One thing that very seldom see still remaining with a uniform are the trousers. This uniform has the trousers and they are in very attractive untouched condition. They still retain the lining. They are the matching cadet gray color with the red stripe going down the sides.

On the reverse it has the original japanned tin adjuster present. At the top it has a set of 1800's suspenders attached and they display quite well.

As you can see they display wonderfully from all directions.

You get the Uniform Coat, Trousers and the Kepi of the Independent Corps of Cadets of Boston for $9,950.00

Many thanks for the Pistol Cartridge Box, which arrived in England this morning. Just what I was looking for and just as described. -John

I received the sword today and am very happy with it. Your description and pictures were exact. When I hold it, "I can feel the history" and know it has been places. Also, it looks very good with my Spencer Carbine. Thank you very much for the business. - Chuck
