This is a nice looking original CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the bust view of a soldier wearing a fine suit of civilian clothes. We know he was a soldier, because he has on his lapel a 14th Corps badge. The distinctive design of the acorn was used to designate the famous 14th Corps. With the date that is marked on the back. This is likely done when he returned home from service and wanted to show his pride of service by wearing the corps badge still. On the reverse of the image it has the Madison, Indiana photographer Mark of Finley's Fine Art Gallery. One thing that is neat about this image is that it has the dated tax stamp on the back. The Union government required tax stamps on photographs in 1864 and 1865. This one is dated 9-17- 65. This is a fine looking original CDV image of a Union soldier in uniform with the 14th Corps Badge.
