This is a nice looking original CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the bearded union cavalryman in full view standing in front of the simple backdrop. The soldier is wearing the classic shell style military coat and it has the 2 straps on each sleeve that would denote his rank of Corporal. In his hand he holds the kepi style military hat which was often worn by the fighting men of the Civil War. On the back of the card it has the New York City Photographer Mark of W. Klauser who was located at 630 Broadway in New York City. This is a fine clear image of the Civil War Corporal.
