This is a very fine original CDV image of Civil War Union General Samuel R. Curtis. It shows General Curtis in his best dress uniform. Curtis was from the state of Iowa and during the Civil War he began service as Colonel of the 2nd Iowa. Curtis commanded the Federal Forces at the battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, which they won. The signature also has the rank of Major General. He survived the Civil War and dies in 1866. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. This is one of the images that were produced form a steel engraving plate. It made a distinctive design with a crisp image. This is a fine engraving style CDV image of Union Major General Curtis
