This is a very nice original dug 14mm cuff size 1830's militia eagle button. This is the low profile flat faced 2-piece button. It has the eagle poised in front of a shield on the face of the button. The original back and shank are intact with a nice look. You can still read the United States backmark on the reverse. In Tice's button book lists this one as GM206 and is listed as Johnson's #257. He states that this style of button was used on U.S. Army forage caps dating to the Mexican War and was likely used regulated to militia use by 1860. This is a solid little button that display quite well and doesn't cost a fortune!
