Here is a button that you don't see offered very often! It is an original early 1-piece U.S. naval cuff button. This is the pattern that is listed as the NA87 in Albert's button book. It has the Union eagle in the center of the button with the anchor down below . Around the edge of the button it has the 13 stars on the lined background. On the reverse of the button it has the "W&R SMITH TREBLE GILT" backmark still vividly visible. This is the maker's mark of the firm of William & Richard Smith of Birmingham, England. This is one of the tougher to find maker's marks on this version of U.S. navy button. The shank is solid as a rock as you can see. This is a superb and scarce version 1-piece navy button from about the 1820's.
