Gorgeous 26mm Coat Size Confederate Engineer Button CS152
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a stunningly designed button. This is one of the most ornate buttons of the Civil War. This is the manuscript style Confederate Engineer button. It is the very large 26mm size button. It is the style button listed as figure CS152 in Albert's book and CSE212a1 in Tice's button book. It is the rare 26 mm version of the Confederate Engineer's coat button. This jewel would have been made in England and imported through the Union naval blockade so it could be sold by a Southern retailer to the well-to-do Confederate Engineer. It has the fancy manuscript style "E" on the face which denotes the Engineering branch of Confederate service. As you see the face of the button is beautiful with a nice amount of the original gold gilding intact. This one has the original back and shank intact with the "S. ISAACS CAMPBELL & CO. LONDON ST. JAMES ST" backmark still clearly visible. This button is complete with no repair of any kind. It is a great button that will stand out to any of your button collecting friends when they come over.
