Gorgeous Lady Liberty Design $20 Canal Bank of New Orleans Note
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a true work of art as much as it is a bank note. It is an original $20 note from the Canal & Banking Company in New Orleans, Louisiana. This one was never issued as you can tell by the blanks where the names and signatures would have gone. This note displays superbly and was never issued and it is from the pre-Civil War era as they were not printed after the Civil War. It has the scene of Lady Liberty with the eagle under her arm. On the right hand side it has the image of the paddlewheel steamship. If you notice down in the bottom center of the note it has the "NEW ORLEANS" location of the bank. On the right hand side of the note has the Roman style bust design. It states on the front that the bank will pay the bearer in New Orleans." The back of the note it has the New Orleans location in fine brown ink. You can tell that these notes were crafted like a work of art and not just printed as were so many of the pieces of the day. The note comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation. What a fantastic display piece!
