This is a great looking original Civil War era CDV image of Union General Hiram Gregory Berry (1824-1863). The face of the card is an image of the General in his fine dress uniform with the General stars on his shoulders. Berry was born on August 27th 1824 in Rockland, Maine. On June 15th 1861 he became Colonel of the 4th Maine Volunteer Infantry. He served with the Army of the Potomac.He attained the rank of Major General. He was killed in action leading his command on the morning of May 3rd 1863 at the fierce battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia. This is one of the steel engraving versions of CDV that allowed for larger and more affordable copies of the images of the famous personalities of the day. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2-1/2 inches by 3-5/8ths inches in size. This is a great looking image. ' ' "o"
