Here is a fine original CDV image of Confederate General Gideon Johnson Pillow (1806 – 1878). The image shows the bust view of Pillow. The General was born on June 8th 1806 in Williamson County, Tennessee. He was a lawyer in Columbia, Tennessee with future President James Knox Polk. He served during the Mexican war and was wounded twice in the Mexico City Campaign. On July 9th 1861 he was appointed as a Brigadier General in the Provisional Confederate Army. After the cluster at Fort Donelson he never held another important command. He died near Helena, Arkansas on October 8th 1878 and is buried in Memphis. On the reverse of the card it is marked by the famous Anthony Firm. These CDV images measure approximately 2 1/2 inches wide and are 4 inches tall. This is a tough to find image of a famous Confederate General. `
