Original CDV Image of Union General Egbert Ludovicus Viele in Uniform

This is an original Civil War era CDV image of Civil War General Egbert Ludovicus Viele. Viele was born on June 17th 1825 in Waterford, New York. In 1847 he graduated from West Point Military Academy. He served in Mexico during the occupation. He was a top notch Engineer and also authored a soldier's handbook entitled, Handbook for Active Service. On August 17th 1861 he was appointed as Brigadier General of U.S. Volunteers. After the War he went back to New York and passed there on April 22nd 1902. The image shows the general in his uniform with his General insignia showing on his collar. He has a very stern, almost angry look on his face. On the back of the card it has the General's name printed in pencil. This is one of the versions that was printed by Anthony using one of the negatives of Mathew Brady. This is a solid original Civil War Union General CDV image.
