Excellent Silvered Infantry "I" Cuff Button With Tin Back Intact
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful original Infantry officer's eagle I button. This one is the 16mm version that would have adorned the cuffs of a coat or possibly the collar of a uniform. It has the eagle on the front with the "I" in the shield that denotes the infantry branch of service. This is the 2-piece button with the shank which is still present on the back. This is the version that was made with the tin back and iron shank on the reverse. Almost all of the silver remains on the front and it has a fine look. Even though these are early buttons probably late 1850's, they are often found in Civil War campsites as back then the soldiers used what they could find. This is a great button for any collection.
