Click on an image to enlarge

This is a great looking 9th plate tintype image of a Civil War Union cavalryman in his enlisted style shell jacket coat. These tintype images were produced on a thin sheet of tin, hence the name. This one is the size known to collectors as the ninth plate image. This means that the image measures approximately 2 inches by 2.5 inches in size. This image is nice and clear. The image shows the seated knee up view of the soldier. He is wearing his shell military coat with the forage style military hat on his head. When you look at the hat closely you can see it has the brass ventilator in the center. These were design to let the isnide of the hat "Breathe". He holds cradled in his arm his model 1840 "Wristbreaker" pattern cavalry saber with the sword knot still visible. Around his waist he wears the classic eagle design sword belt buckle on the belt. The image has the entire leatherette case remaining. Accompanying the tintype of his in uniform is a photo of the same young man in a fine suit of clothes. It makes an amazing display beside the armed image. This is a great looking tintype image of a armed artillery soldier with the bonus tintype. '
