"Cooper Union" Version Civil War CDV Image of President Abraham Lincoln
Click on an image to enlarge

Here is a very desirable version of campaign piece with an image of President Abraham Lincoln. This one is a very scarce Portrait-on-Leather Campaign Pendant. The pendant that holds the image measures 1.125 inches across. In the center it has the famous "Cooper Union" portrait of Lincoln on leather. At the top it has the brass suspension loop. The piece has a textured surface with an area of loss along right side. The image is somewhat dark, yet bold. This portrait of Lincoln is the "Cooper Union" Pose, referencing the time Lincoln sat for portrait photographer Mathew Brady after giving a speech at Cooper Union Institute in New York. This image is a lithograph done after Mathew Brady's first photograph of Lincoln, on the day of the Cooper Union speech, February 27, 1860. It shows the young, beardless Lincoln while he was still a hopeful candidate for president. In our 30 years int he business, this is the first one of these that we have been able to offer. '
