COOL! Wheeling, Virginia Counterfeit $5 from the North Western Bank
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautifully designed original Civil War era bank note from the Wheeling, Virginia. Yes, that's right! It was before they took part of Virginia and made it into West Virginia. This one was issued by the North Western Bank of Virginia and has the hand written date of issuance of August 8, 1853. The center of the note has the beautiful scene that depicts the scene with the goddess and the Indian. In the lower right hand corner it has the Washington image and in the other corner it has the train image. This is a counterfeit note but you can tell by the wear that it was used extensively and still displays quite well. The note is blank on the back which is referred to by collectors as the note being "Uniface". This fine piece of currency comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation purposes.
