Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very tough piece to find! It is an original Civil War Confederate savings bond from the state of Tennessee. Across the top f the golden color paper it boldly reads "CONFEDERATE STATE OF AMERICA" and then "STATE OF TENNESSEE". It has the beautiful great seal of the state of Tennessee in the middle. In the center of the bond it has the red ink overprint "$1000" denomination marking. Down at the bottom it states that it was approved by the Governor Isham G. Harris. If you note the date it states that it was April 1st 1862 which is just days before Harris would be fighting at the Battle of Shiloh and was one of the first to find Confederate Albert Sidney Johnston was dead. Harris personally signed the bond in fine ink at the bottom. The bond retains seven of the interest coupons and would be perfect for framing. There is a museum quality tape repairs along the fold lines on the reverse of the paper that are mentioned for exactness but won't be visible once it is framed. This is a scarce piece that displays superbly and will make a fine addition to any collection.
