This is a great original autograph of a famous Georgian. This is the signature of John H. Lumpkins (1812-1860). Lumpkin was born on June 13th 1812 in Lexington, Georgia. He had a long politial career that started after he was admitted to Georgia bar in 1834. First he was inthe Georgia House and then seved multiple terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. Lumpkins died on July 10th 1860 and is buried in Rome, Georgia. Limpkin Hill in Rome is named after him. The signature is on a piece of paper that measures 5 inches by 8 inches in size. The paper is dated July 11th 1856 from Washington, D.C. It is nice and clear in old brown ink as you can see. He writes the note entirely in his hand and is signed "Yours Respectfully, Jno H. Lumpkins". The letter is accompanied by a modern made xerox image of Lumpkins to enhance the display. This is a fine original autographed letter from an influential Southern politician!
