Superb Autograph of Confederate General Alexander Welch Reynolds

This is a great original autograph of a famous Confederate General. This is the signature of Confederate General Alexander Welch Reynolds (April 1816 or August 1817 " May 26, 1876. The General born in Frederick County, Virginia. There are conflicting accounts of the actual date but it is though that it was April of 1816 or August of 1817. He graduated West point with the class of 1838. He fought in the Seminole War and then served with the quartermaster Department. On July 10th 1861 he was commissioned as Colonel of the 50th Virginia. He was captured and paroled with the fall of Vicksburg. On September 14th 1863 he was promoted to Brigadier General. The General was wounded in the Battle of New Hope Church while trying to prevent Sherman from reaching Atlanta. After the War he went to Egypt to serve in their military and reached the rank of Colonel. He died in Alexandria on May 26th 1876. The signature is on a piece of that measures 3-1/4th inches by 1-1/8th inches in size. It is signed "A.W. Alexander" with the remnants of an 1870's date up above. The letter is accompanied by a modern made xerox image of the General in his uniform to enhance the display. This is a fine original Confederate autographed letter!
