1830's Counterfeit $5 From the Bank of Virginia in Richmond
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a neat original pre-Civil War note. This one was made to copy the original money issued by the Bank of Virginia in Richmond. This counterfeit was easy to spot. The printer's imprint was botched and the facial features on Hope are not the quality you see in the original notes. It has the hand written signatures and date to make it more authentic. It is dated from 1839. The note measures 6 inches by 2-3/4th inches in size. It was professionally graded by the PMG Company and they graded it as "Fine". PMG notes the presence of several small tape reinforcements on the back edges. This is the first one of these notes we have been able to offer. It comes in their holder for display and preservation.
