Here is a great piece for your wall! This is an original savings bond from the state of Alabama. This is the one that was issued by Confederate Alabama and across the top proudly reads "CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA" with the famous Alabama state seal of the Map on Tree design. This savings bond is printed on very thin paper with the red "1,000" overprint to help prevent counterfeiting. The bond is autographed by the Confederate Civil War Governor, Thomas Hill Watts, who served the Confederacy from 1863 until 1865. Along the bottom of the bond it has all of the original interest coupons. These coupons paid the interest on the savings bonds, once a year on February 1st and paid $60 per year (6 percent). The bonds is hand numbered in brown ink and this one is "254" the coupons as well as the bond itself are hand signed for the Comptroller by A. Walker. On the back of each coupon it has the ink notation that the issue date was August 23rd 1864 in Mobile. This is a wonderful piece for any Confederate or Alabama collector.
