Mississippi Inscribed Rare Steam Train Scene Confederate Savings Bond
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful Confederate savings bond. This original 1862 dated Confederate savings bond was issued for the $1,000 denomination. This is the style that has the image of a steam locomotive in the center of the bond. Behind the train you can see a paddle wheel steamer in the distance. This is the same image that they used for the Confederate $100 bills. It is hand signed and numbered and printed on a paper that has fine look. The hand written date is April 10th of 1862. This one has the serial number of #1,053. At the bottom of the bond are the 11 original interest coupons that would have been cashed if the Confederate Government would have stayed in existence. This is the pattern listed in the Ball Confederate Bond Book as #53 and in Criswell's book as CR-83. One thing that makes this bond interesting is that it has an ink inscription on the reverse that states it was invested in 1863 for someone in Carroll County, Mississippi. This is a great piece of Confederate history from 1862.
