Click on an image to enlarge

This is a nice looking original CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the full standing view of a young Union soldier in his uniform. He is wearing the single breasted style coat that has the straps on his shoulders. Around his waist, you can see the Eagle style sword belt and buckle. Hanging from the side, you can see the leather and brass scabbard. With one hand in front, he holds his sword, which is the classic model 1850 foot officer sword. On his hat he has the hunting horn insignia that denotes the infantry branch of service. The CDV images were made by applying a thin paper photo image of the famous person of the day to a heavier paper card. This made the image more durable and easier to display and also added uniformity to the size. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. The card has the crease and a pinhole but it still displays well. This is fine original Civil War soldier's CDV image.
