Click on an image to enlarge
This is not an easy little button to find. It is the cuff size version of the uniform button that was worn by the 12th New York militia also known as the Independence guard of New York City. It is the version listed as NY48av in Albert's button book and NY228as1.1 in Tice's button book, both of which we sell. It has the number 12 in the center of the front with the wreath around the numbers. The 12th served in 1861, 1862 & 1863 according to Tice. This one is in excellent shape and you can still see the correct Civil War rmdc backmark of "H. BRO. & ALLIEN NY" This is a fine uniform button of the 12th New York.
