Scarce CDV Image of Confederate General Gabriel James Rains

This is an authentic CDV image of Confederate General Gabriel James Rains (1803-1881). The General was born on June 4th 1803 and graduated from West Point in 1827. He served in the Seminole War and was breveted for gallantry. On September 23rd 1861 he was made a Brigadier General in the Confederate Provisional Army. He commanded but is best known for his contributions to Confederate Artillery & Ordnance. He developed the fuse system that bears his name as well as a Confederate Landmine. He died in Aiken, South Carolina on August 6th 1880 and is buried in St. Thaddeus Cemetery. The image shows Rains with his beard and his uniform from the bust view. Along the bottom of the card it has the "GEN. RAINS" marking. The card stock is blank on the reverse so it wouldn't advertise for the actual printed of the photo and could be sold by any retailer. This is a cool CDV with a neat look!
