Cool Looking Unfinished Confederate Cavalry Spur From the Baird Spur Book
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a fine excavated cavalry spur. This is the EXACT spur that is pictured and described on page 5&6 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a spur that was never finished and he uses it to show how the construction was done. This is the excavated style that is Southern in manufacture. Examples of this style have been excavated in campsites occupied by Southern troops. The spur is completely unmarked and is the style that was worn by cavalry enlisted during the Civil War. It is missing the rowel on the straight forward style neck. On the back of the spur legs it has the rectangular style strap loops holes. It has a pretty color to the brass. This is a very cool spur that was published!
