Good Looking Model .69 Springfield or Contract Maker Socket Bayonet
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a good looking socket bayonet for the .69 caliber Springfield or contract maker muskets and rifles. This is the pattern known to collectors as the "replacement" socket bayonet for the .69 muskets. These were made after 1855 and were to be used as replacements for the U.S. Model 1835 and also for the Model 1842. This is the one that would go on the .69 caliber Springfield or contract muskets of the model 1835 or model 1842 either one. They have the socket like the 1835 and 1842 but the blade is more stylishly designed like that of the 1855. It has a full-length blade with the "US" stamp at the base still visible. The socket is complete and has the original lockring and screw that are both fully-functional. This one has a medium tone all over and will be a solid addition to your model 1835 or 1842 musket.
