SCARCE! 1908 Pattern Officer's Saddlecloth With Double Engineer Castles
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very cool piece! This is an original officer grade saddlecloth. These were used to go on the horseback. It is constructed using 2 pieces of No.9 cotton "Duck" material. They are joined at the seam by the russet leather spine. Each panel measures 33 inches by 19 inches in size. This is a variation of the one used as figure #21 on page 347 of the American Military Saddle book by Dorsey & McPheeters. What makes this one really stand out is that it has both of the original cast brass Engineer castle insignia on each side. It has the classic castle design and they have a gorgeous untouched color to the brass. What a fantastic display piece!
