Schuyler H&G Design Cavalry Spur From the Baird Spur Book
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very fine excavated cavalry spur. This is the EXACT spur that is pictured and described on page 85 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a thin enlisted style spur with the rounded rowel neck. This gives it a beautiful look. This is the pattern that we see illustrated in the 1864 militaria catalog of the famous New York firm of Schuyler, Hartley & Graham. They are very distinctive because of the design as well as the large brass rowel. The rowel is still present and still turns. The spur is in beautiful non-excavated condition. This is a great looking spur that was published!
