Brass Hilted Short Saber From the War of 1812 Era with 26-1/2 Inc Blade
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a cool and still affordable saber from the War of 1812 timeframe. This is the style of sword that is referred to as a "Short Saber". This is a finely crafted sword that would have been made in Europe. It has the full-length 26-1/2 inch blade. The blade is crafted with a thin single fuller along the top of the blade. The handguard of the sword is made with a three branch design and long ago one of the branches was removed. The brass of the handguard and the backstrap have a very pleasing mellow tone to the brass. The handguard is joined to the backstrap using a screw. It has the original handle intact. The wooden core still retains some of the leather on the wood. It has the double twist brass wire intact and that wire is flanked on each side by the single strand of brass wire. This is a very cool looking sword that is 200 years old.
