Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an original classic model 1840 cavalry saber. These were referred to by the soldiers as the "Wristbreaker" due to their massive size and construction. This one has the desirable mark of Horstmann's of Philadelphia on the back side base of the blade. Horstmann was one of the premiere suppliers of military items during the Civil War. The other side of the blade has the small Keystone stamping that many people say means they were made for Horstmann by Emerson & Silver. The blade is full length and has a fine gray look. The grip and wire are present. About 95% of the leather is present and the entire original double twist wire wrap is still accounted for. The brass guard and pommel have a nice ancient copper color to the patina. It is accompanied by the original scabbard that fits like a glove. This is a fine looking enlistedman's cavalry saber & scabbard that will look great in your collection.
