Stonewall Style! Schuyler H&G Design Cavalry Spur From the Baird Spur Book
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very fine excavated cavalry spur. This is the EXACT spur that is pictured and described on page 84 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a high quality officer's style spur with the step up rowel neck. He notes that the rowel is made from an 1853 silver quarter and that was an option. This gives it a beautiful look. This is the pattern that we see illustrated in the 1864 militaria catalog of the famous New York firm of Schuyler, Hartley & Graham. They are very distinctive because of the design and it is like the ones that Confederate general Stonewall Jackson was wearing when he was killed. The rowel is still present and still turns. It has the original leather strap intact as well as the Japanned tin buckle. The spur is in beautiful non-excavated condition. This is a great looking spur that was published!
