This is a very nice original cavalry saber & scabbard from the Civil War. This is the model 1840 cavalry saber that was made by the firm of P.S. Justice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On the base of the back of the blade is the maker's mark of "P.S. JUSTICE" and "PHILADA". Justice was a maker of swords and guns for the Union army during the Civil War. They made some and imported others. The blade has a beautiful color all over and you can still see the factory finishing polishing marks at the base. This is the one known to collectors as the Type 2 Justice sword that was made in Solingen, Germany and sold by Justice. They can easily be distinguished by the single screw holding the throat in place in the back of the scabbard and the marking on the scabbard drag. It has the "S&K" stamping and the "GM" stamping as well. This is the maker markings of the Schnitzler & Kirschbaum company of Solingen, Germany. The blade has a fine looking gray color all over. The guard and pommel cap are present with an attractive untouched tone to the brass. On the handle of the sword it has has had the leather and the double twist brass wire. The sword is accompanied by the original metal scabbard. The scabbard is complete with the original mounts, rings, drag and throat intact. The scabbard has a very nice dark patina look all over. This is a fine original Civil War cavalry saber with the desirable Justice marking.
