Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very tough piece to find! It is an original Civil War Confederate savings bond from the state of Tennessee. Across the top f the golden color paper it boldly reads "STATE OF TENNESSEE". It has the beautiful capitol building of the state of Tennessee in the middle. On each of the corners at the top it has the "$1000" denomination marking. Down at the bottom it states that it was approved by the Governor Isham G. Harris. If you note the date it states that it was June 1st 1862 which is after Nashville had already been evacuated and fallen into Union hands. Just a couple of months before this Isham Harris would be fighting at the Battle of Shiloh and was one of the first to find Confederate Albert Sidney Johnston was dead. Harris personally signed the bond in fine ink at the bottom. The bond retains several of the interest coupons and the last one could have been redeemed on June 1st 1862. There are some old tape spots and small holes along the fold lines on the paper that are mentioned for exactness. The bond comes archivally framed in a beautiful and ornate gold frame. The overall size of the piece in the frame measures 27 inches by 27 inches. Because of the size of the piece we cannot ship it without the glass breaking but we will be glad to bring it to a show for you or you can pick it up at our office. This is a scarce piece that displays superbly and will make a fine addition to any collection.
