Beautiful Civil War Era Massachusetts Militia Uniform with State Seal Buttons
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a great looking piece for the price! This is an original Civil War era uniform from the state of Massachusetts. This coat is the style that many of the early war soldiers headed off to war in. It would date from the late 1850's to early 1870's. It is the classic style that is designed with the single row of buttons going down the front of the coat. It has all of the original 9 coat buttons going down the front. They are the coat size Civil War uniform button for the state of Massachusetts. They have the famous arm and sword design of Massachusetts on the face of the button. They have the original backs and shanks intact with the correct Civil War "EXTRA QUALITY" backmark. Most of them still have some of the original gold wash still present down in the recesses and it gives them a wonderful look. This is the pattern listed as MS 35 in Albert's button book and MS210F in Tice's button book. The collar of the coat stands 1-1/4th inches tall and it has the blue detail. On the sleeves of the coat it has the blue design with the three cuff buttons. The back of the coat has the swallowtail design with the 4 buttons intact. When you open the coat up, you are greeted by the original well crafted lining in the body as well as the sleeves. You can see that the coat was well worn but taken care of. This is a fine display piece for the price of an artillery shell jacket these days but it has much more character and is much more scarce. Don't miss this one.
