Click on an image to enlarge
This is a great original Civil War image! It is an original Civil War ambrotype image of a cavalry soldier. This the size that sixth plate ambrotype size measures approximately 3.25 by 2.75 inches in overall size. This one shows the seated view of the Union soldier in uniform. The coat that he is wearing is the "Shell" pattern worn by the cavalry branch of service. On his sleeves, he has the three stripes that denotes the rank of sergeant. He holds cradled in his arm, the classic eagle pommel saber that is so appreciated by collectors these days. The other thing you can see is the single shot pocket pistol that is tucked behind the belt on his waist that is clearly visible. One thing that really makes this image special is that when you take the image out of the mat, you see his hat sitting on the table. The image displays well and has had the brass mat removed to show more of the image. It comes in the complete gutta percha thermoplastic style image case. The case has some wear but displays well. This is a superb looking armed Civil War soldier in uniform holding his sword.
