Authentic Civil War and Earlier Percussion Cap Boxes

VERY COOL! Surely Confederate Made Percussion Cap Bop with Cast Brass Finial
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a wonderful untouched Civil War artifact. This is the small leather box that was designed to hold the percussion caps for the soldier's pistol, musket or carbine. What is neat about this one is that in my opinion it is a Southern made version of the box. When you look at the simple construction of the box compared to that of the Northern made cap boxes it is clear to see this one would have never made it out of a Northern arsenal. It is made of the black tone leather. Right off the bat you notice that the hole in the outer flap that allows the finial to go though to keep it closed is cuff off center as is the outer flap itself. The finial itself is a short and squatty on that is made of cast brass and is secured in place by a washer on the inside. The innermost compartment has the traces of the pig skin that the material to hold the caps in place was at one time. When you look at the back of the box it has both of the original very thin leather belt loops intact. This is a very cool box that is almost surely Confederate in manufacture and is half the price of what it would cost if the finial were lead instead of brass.
