When was the last time you had a chance to own one of these? This is an original Austrian made cavalry saber. It is recorded that some of these swords of this style were imported for use by the Confederate cavalry during the Civil War. Since they added no Confederate markings to them we can't know for sure but it has an honest chance of being Rebel used. This one has the full-length blade that measures 33-1/4th inches in overall length. It has the double edged point with the single fuller that goes about 3/4ths of the blade length. At the base of the back side of the blade it has the Austrian style proof marks along with the " C. JURMANN" maker's mark. On the back side it has the 1854 production date. These swords have the massive iron hand guard with the seven holes and the two small slots. The handle of the sword has the original wooden core intact with the original leather having been restored in more modern times. The sword is accompanied by the original metal scabbard. The scabbard is complete with both of the mounts and rings as well as the drag and throat. The throat and one of the rings have been restored for display purposes. This pattern of scabbard has the two large screws on the sides that hold the throat in place. This is good looking Model 1850 Austrian Pattern Cavalry Saber with the desirable 1854 production date.
