Here is an interesting pre-Civil War bank note from Indiana. This bank note was issued from the Lafayette, Indiana institution, The Gramercy Bank. It was issued for the amount of $1.00 and has the printed date of November 25, 1852. The Gramercy Bank opened in 1852 and collapsed in 1857 when its owners looted its assets along with those of the Shawnee Bank of Attica and fled for parts unknown. Its connection with the Gramercy Hotel in New York City remains unknown. The note measures 7 inches by 3 inches in size. The note is in well worn circulated condition and displays well. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
