Authentic Civil War .58 Caliber Military Rifle With 1862 Springfield Lockplate Date
Click on an image to enlarge
This gun has a very cool well worn look all over. This is the classic model 1861 Springfield that was so widely used by the soldiers during the Civil War. The lockplate has the crystal clear 1862 production date as well as the Springfield arsenal mark and the remnants of the Union eagle. The action works crisply on both positions. The barrel is full-length with the eagle and "VP" stamp being still visible at the base. The bore of the gun is gone with an uncleaned look all the way down. The original front sight is intact and the rear sight is missing in action. The stock is a nice dark piece of walnut that you can see was well worn but not abused. It has the original front and rear barrel band but the middle band is a replacement using an 1863 Springfield band. It has both of the sling swivels removed long ago and has the modern made replacement ramrod in the channel underneath. This is a very nice looking gun for the price!
