Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a beautifully designed piece of Mississippi currency from the Civil War. This is an original May 30th 1862 dated $1.00 note issued by the City of Natchez, Mississippi. In the center it states that "The City of Natchez WILL PAY ON DEMAND TEN CENTS, In Confederate notes when presented in sums of Five Dollars. It proudly states "CITY OF NATCHEZ" and has the blue ink "TEN CENTS". This is a scarce note payable in Confederate notes and signed by the mayor and city clerk. The note was printed on paper that had already been used. It was cheaper than buying new paper. The note measures 6-1/2 inches by 2-3/4th inches in overall size. It is missing the lower right hand corner and is priced accordingly. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
